Inspiring Stones for XMAS!!

Sam made the clay stones

Great to lift someone’s spirits or your OWN too.. I wanted to place these in a bowl by the front door or even on my coffee table.. But I have placed them in one of my candle trays. (Don’t look too bad i guess)..

The only thing with clay is you have to wait until it is dry and hard enough, to use paints on it. The other thing you can do is buy a bag of rocks from any Home Center store and paint them which are way smoother to work on. Only remember to soak them in soapy water and wash and dry them properly.  Paint them with a base coat and once they are dry you are ready to paint them with any acrylics paint and use various types of brushes depending on what you want to write or just draw.

I can’t wait to try that out myself..

Happy Crafty Weekend to All!

The Butterfly Inside us

Not until recently I discovered the meaning OH Well!  The symbolic meaning of the Butterfly. The more I read and see the transformation of a butterfly the more I seem to agree that it is in fact the representation for the Heart- joy, rebirth, happiness, change, hope. Not only they look so beautiful and dainty they also represent strength and gentleness.

At some point of time, we all have to go through grief and loss and perhaps the change we are not ready for yet we have no choices. Although some people may choose to retreat in a cocoon, for healing. However that is part one of the stage, we have to come out and transform, emerge as the person we should be or have to be into a different person. Hence the transformation is just like the life of a butterfly.

Like the caterpillar, this cocoons before its transformation into a butterfly but after experiencing the loss of being a caterpillar. This teaches us to live again and while we accept the change and the beauty of the change for the best.

If you watch the butterfly it will land quietly, softly and yet it is hopeful and full of belief into its new form. Hence we learn to live forever yet changed and transformed into someone we were not. A chance to reconceive ourselves, to be reborn as individuals out of whatever loss or change it is.

If we try we all can emerge from the cocooned dark place, accept the change and transform into a different person.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty”. – Maya Angelou

We always seem to resist the change and the suffering yet, when we do, that is what sets us free. We all have a little bit of butterfly inside us and unlike them, we have more than once to experience that – our beliefs, opinions, ideas, perceptions etc can be changed and transformed over and over again.

Another favourite quote that I like is:

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

To name a few, In China, it symbolises love. Chinese legend has it that the Butterfly symbolizes an undying bond between lovers.

In the Ancient Celts, it represents the carrying of the souls of the dead from Purgatory to the Heaven

In Greek it is associated with the Goddess “Psyche” forever linked with love with Eros (Cupid) – both hopelessly in love with the other.

In ancient Egypt they reigning as the symbol of Isis.

The nearly unlimited symbols of butterflies exemplifies the advent of hope for a change for a better life, a better world.

So people, spread your wings and transform beautifully.

Such a small, tiny creature yet so graceful, full of life and colour represent so much hope. I am sure we all have seen butterflies in real life and somehow we always stare at them until they are not visible to the eye anymore and even better is when we are surrounded by our children, we shout out to them and say “Look Look – Look at the Butterfly”

Soul Sunday

Good Afternoon 🙂 What a month!!

Time – hmnnn can’t tell if it’s stopped right now or just flying by so quickly. I can’t believe I have been missing in action here for such a long time and I have posted only four times this month, that’s unlike me. I am usually a very committed (which means dedicated and loyal to certain important things, people and stuff in my life and I plan and hope I can’t stick by those pledges or promises I make, unless of course something or someone is not taking me down in the bargain.. However, I feel really bad and it’s time to brush the dust away and stop procrastinating.  (I guess must be something or someone in the air, which makes you feel like nothing is worth your time…) Yes, I have been on zero inspiration doze and I don’t like that..

Must admit I hate leaving such big gaps – everything should be or shouldn’t be. So I decided I will try and blog more often like I used too. Well out of all this, the only thing I did was to push myself to take a short break and just leave, for a change of scenery, people, mind, food, language (the less they speak your language the better more peaceful I guess, but sometimes it can be a pain, if you need any kind of assistance.. but I guess this is life…. On a plus side, no time is ever wasted or is it? (Well that is a topic for another day). And now with the schools having restarted for some, at least for my big boy, Ramadan over, so early to bed and early to rise routine, hoping for better weather, better days… I need to get back in action, need to step up in full speed… Just need to do things, stuff more stuff… Well we can think and want all that we feel but it ain’t happening… so the best is to just go with the flow.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead, Well I am going to be busy with running to the school (fee, uniforms and all the last minute things we leave to the very last minute), go to the service center for installing a part that just arrived, groceries (never ending), my knee is killing me so maybe an X-ray, I think I need a visit to the optician too, convince my maid to stay for another year, if not look for another one, Ooops forgot to mention (still have to complete the school projects.… and with all this happening I hope I can find time for some retail therapy or a day at the spa at least… Why do I feel like another break already ???? Oh did I mention I need to go the dentist too .. And also perhaps take my son to the movies, the Dark Knight Rises or something…

Got to Run…

Real Life Pics

I spotted this old man at the beach the other day and it just caught my eye, luckily i was carrying my cannon and i captured “that age is just a number – and no matter what if we want, if we can try, we can do a lot of things”.

A picture always says a thousand words and its upto you to depict its meaning..

I really hope to shoot some more real life pics and post them soon.. Till then have a Great Monday Guys!!

Most Fascinating Journey

In 1989, Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine climbed aboard their 1988  Mercedes Benz G-Wagen to travel from Germany to Africa, where they planned to  complete a once-in-a-lifetime road trip that would last 18-months.

Except the trip didn’t last 18-months, it has lasted 23 years, spanned more  than 200 countries and the G-Wagen now has 800,000 kilometers, or 500,000 miles,  on its odometer. That’s the equivalent of 20 times around the equator.

The trio have visited everywhere from Alaska to Zimbabwe by way of North Korea,  the Sahara desert, Mount Everest and Siberia in an effort to drive around the  globe. Sadly, Gunther’s wife Christine passed away in 2010, but he has continued  to travel the world, as per her wishes.

I am totally amazed at such people with so much determination with nil factors bothering them be it age, finance, food, living – Just WOW!! Truly an inspiration. What a incredible journey must say and i love the affectionate name given to the Mercedes Benz G-Wagen “Otto”. All this without the help of technology even the cameras he carried are very old models with reels and yet he they achieved so much.. makes me wanna give up my fb account or my mobile … def not my Cannon!!

Attitude

“Life is 10% of What Happens to Me and 90% of How I React to It”

When things aren’t working the way you want them to, or you feel you’re surrounded by problems, it can be tempting to look outward and try to change the things that you feel are causing issues. Chances are the issues you’re facing aren’t so cut and dry. The solution to the problem might just be your attitude. That’s what pastor and educator Charles R. Swindoll believes:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge of our attitudes.

Stephen Covey

We all know him as a very famous motivational speaker and author of the best-selling ” The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” which i guess we all have read at some point of time and as for me i think i still have a copy of it lying somewhere at home. God Bless his Soul.

He has also been named one of Time magazine’s 25 Most Influential Americans and he authored a number of books focused on leadership. To name a few of  his books “First Things First,“ ”Principle-Centered Leadership,“ and ”The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families”. He was the inspiration to millions of individuals and also an icon for the corporate world.

Below are 10 quotes from Stephen Covey that have the power to completely change the direction of one’s life.

1)      The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.

2)      The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

3)      Live out of your imagination, not your history.

4)      Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.

5)      Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.

6)      I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.

7)      You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically, to say “no” to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger “yes” burning inside. The enemy of the “best” is often the “good.”

8)      I teach people how to treat me by what I will allow.

9)      Love is a verb. Love – the feeling – is the fruit of love the verb or our loving actions. So love her

10)   Live, love, laugh, leave a legacy.

Hope we can all learn something from his seminal work and influence both our business and personal situations in the field of self-improvement. (something that is much requried these days)

Wishing everyone a Blessed Day.

Only once in your life

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you.

When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful.

There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all.

A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you.

You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you.

You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile.

Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”  ―    Bob Marley
