International Women’s Day

womens day

International Women’s Day also called International Working Women’s Day is celebrated each year on the 8th of March. It honors one of the first organized actions by working women in the world in 1857, when hundreds of women workers in garment and textile factories in New York City staged a strike against low wages, long working hours, and inhumane working conditions.

In 1975, during International Women’s Year, the United Nations began celebrating 8 March as International Women’s Day. Two years later, in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace to be observed on a date to be chosen by each Member State. Why dedicate a day exclusively to the celebration of the world’s women? In adopting its resolution on the observance of Women’s Day, the General Assembly cited two reasons: to recognize the fact that securing peace and social progress and the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms require the active participation, equality and development of women; and to acknowledge the contribution of women to the strengthening of international peace and security.

For the women of the world, the Day’s symbolism has a wider meaning: It is an occasion to review how far they have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. It is also an opportunity to unite, network and mobilize for meaningful change.

In recent decades, women have made tremendous progress towards achieving equality with men. Women’s access to education and proper health care has increased; their participation in the paid labor force has grown; and legislation that promises equal opportunities for women and respect for their human rights has been adopted in many countries. The world now has a growing number of women as policy-makers, however, nowhere in the world can women claim to have the same rights and opportunities as men. Women continue to be among the poorest: the majority of the world’s 1.3 billion absolute poor are women. Of the roughly 776 million people around the world who cannot read and write, two thirds are female. On the average, women receive between 30 and 40 per cent less pay than men earn for the same work. Everywhere women continue to be victims of violence, with rape and domestic violence listed as significant causes of disability and death among women worldwide. Clearly there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Each year the United Nation sets a theme for International Women’s Day. ‘Make It Happen’ is the 2015 theme, encouraging effective action for advancing and recognizing women.

I encourage everyone to do their best to make a difference, think globally and act locally !.Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

Children Full of Life

Good Teachers connect theory with life. Please take the time to watch these videos for “Children Full of Life”. There are in five parts.

In this award winning documentary, Mr. Kanamori, a Japanese teacher – teaches his children how to be compassionate, determined, thankful, everything about life, most importantly “to be happy”. A very unique way to teach, approach and connect with these little souls. He encourages the the 4th graders to write and talk about their inner feelings and share it with the classroom, this helps the children to realise the importance of caring for one another. Allow your children to care for they friends – no matter if they are in the same school, class, activity, bus, building or even community.

Just like the family is a very fundamental part of the child, so are their early years in school and role the teachers play in their lives. We can shelter our children from disappointments, however we should also let them be a part of them, by sharing them, talking about them, acknowledging them. If you do not face the disappointments of life with them now, they future disappointments will be more devastating.

Some things happen only once in a lifetime, try to avail every opportunity and live the moment if the moment makes you happy and teach the same to your children… It is absolutely alright to be naughty but be nice and be safe. Kids – you can crack jokes and be funny however do not crack jokes or bully other children. Let the children share they opinion not that of they mother’s or father’s..

Part 5/5 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FGdXEBcdh4&feature=relmfu (very touching!!)

Remember, they are children they will complain, misbehave, argue, make stupid faces… as long as deep down their know the values of respect, bonding with they old and new mates, making efforts is all that counts.. Hope it was worth sharing the videos!!

R.I.P Robin Gibb

The irony of life, we always start paying attention to life and esp people when they are gone!! I am sure just like me there are millions of people out there in the world who are actually searching for his all old, all time favourite songs and will be amazed to even notice some songs we actually forgot or just realised that it was actually sung by the Bee Gees..

Well – i am sure Bee Gees will end up with more likes, searches and even more sales to follow … however unfortunately Robin Gibb will never find out … “talented beyond even his own understanding”.

I hope you all enjoy the below video from One Night Only, these are almost 30 of his top all time hits..

They say that in the second before our death, each of us understands the real reason for our existence, and out of that moment, Heaven or Hell is born. Hell is when we look back during that fraction of a second and know that we wasted an opportunity to dignify the miracle of life. Paradise is being able to say at that moment: “I made some mistakes, but I wasn`t a coward. I lived my life and did what I had to do.” Paulo Coelho

Show you care

Since we are 5 days away from the So Much Hyped Valentine’s Day… I came up with a few tips for the men in your lives and vice versa for the women too..

Just because it’s another occasion of togetherness and love to celebrate you don’t have to always spend so much time racking your brains and then when you haven’t come up with any ideas, you want to overdo it and hence you (WOMEN) end up spending much more… So how about you try the following:

  • Show him you care by smaller but more meaningful ways like THANK HIM for when was the last time he complimented you or listened to your decision or let you run after your goals no matter what.. Just by thanking him and appreciating him – you will see the glow in his eyes!
  • Make him feel extra special by COMPLIMENTING him on things you perhaps did and now you don’t do it anymore.. Talk about his favourite shirt, his sense of humor (not all of them have it so if he doesn’t please don’t try – you could get into trouble…) How people think he’s so charming or even better how the family looks up to him. I am sure once you do the above, he will surely feel on top of the world knowing about his good qualities.
  • Cook a home cooked meal, decorate the table – throw in a little attention and romance in the air – light the candles… the oil burners.. Soft music.. Or the perfect movie…. Do stuff you would do when you are first dating..

All this and you women are done with doing stuff for this 14th Feb..

And now for the men to show you care – it is very simple:

  • Book her a Spa treatment
  • Take her shopping
  • Book a dinner for two in a nice, cozy, warm restaurant
  • Ask her if there is anything that you can do for her… just PAMPER HER
  • Last but not the least – SURPRISE HER with a Present…. Oooops and the flowers too…

Now, why does it have to be so easy for the men the whole time…. 😉

So Everyone – Enjoy your Preparations you still have 120 hrs. to go…..until all you can see is Red!!

A chance to help others

Kiva is a non-profit association that allows people around the world to help and make a change in a very small way but making a vast difference in someone else’s life around the globe.

It’s relatively a new concept launched by a couple back in 2005. I have only been a member with Kiva for almost a year now but to see firsthand how your loan is changing someone’s life is humbling.

Kiva itself does not charge any interest; the loans made by Kiva members (that is anyone who is interested to donate) are passed interest-free to the independent field partner designated for each loan.

Something as small as $25.00 can help alleviate poverty, if we all join hands. The best thing is, that it is just a loan, as soon as the group or the individual repays you, the amount gets deposited back into your account. You can now use it to fund another loan, donate it to Kiva, or withdraw it to spend on something else.

So go and register and become a member – It’s quite simple. You – Just you can be enough to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Nadia Ali Embers

So a Friend of mine, send this Album to me nearly three months ago.. and i cant believe i didn’t pay any attention to it.. I was listening to it with my headphones in the office this morning when you want to get away from the world and not pay any attention to who’s saying what? And i was like WOW! Truly amazing and euphoric. All the songs have such meaningful lyrics and i believe she writes them herself from life experiences.. We can truly feel the emotions behind the songs or sometimes relate to the music with our lives. I especially love the song ‘Fantasy’ from this album although i think they all are very ‘Kool”! Yes kool… just like me..

Bitter Truths You can’t Avoid

“Everyone, at some point in their lives, wakes up in the middle of the night with the feeling that they are all alone in the world, and that nobody loves them now and that nobody will ever love them, and that they will never have a decent night’s sleep again and will spend their lives wandering blearily around a loveless landscape, hoping desperately that their circumstances will improve, but suspecting, in their heart of hearts, that they will remain unloved forever. The best thing to do in these circumstances is to wake somebody else up, so that they can feel this way, too.”
