The Selfie Revolution

That’s right — it’s “selfie.”
If you don’t know what a selfie is, Oxford Dictionaries defines it as:
selfie
Use of selfie has probably gone up from 2013 and keeps rising among celebrities as well as normal public. In the past few months alone, arm’s-length auto-photos of Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Aniston, Nick Jonas and Chris Pratt have all gone viral. And a British poll rated Rihanna the worlds best when it comes to taking the self-aimed shot.
If you want to see star selfies at a recent 56th Annual Grammy Awards go to:

Instagram, Twitter and Facebook – that’s nothing!! There are new selfie social network apps for people to be able to share their faces (happy, sad), abs, tongues, duck faces, everyday moments (modeling, graduate, married, breakup), hairstyles (from brown to blonde), makeup (from pale to tan) new glasses, you name it and you can do it. And if you want to post them on Instagram the hashtag is #selfie. How original is that?
So besides, being modest or not, selfies are a big thing now and the tech world knows they are a thing, that’s why there apps developed for the sole purpose of making your selfies simpler and better for you..Whether you have an Android or an IPhone, these apps can help you with your selfie:

Mezzo

“Mezzo” is a contemporary fusion  restaurant. I was thrilled to go there for the soft opening to sample the fare and drinks. As someone who loves to eat and review food, I was totally looking forward to the evening and hence I starved myself the whole day. Of course they are in their soft opening stage which means a limited menu and lesser working hours.  Both the front house staff and the kitchen staff seem very friendly and open to your honest appraisal of the experience. I personally loved the decor and especially the one wall painting done by a Kuwaiti Artist.

To start with we were served with hot Mushroom cappucino soup.. I am not a mushroom person, but I actually enjoyed it.

For my starters I ordered the Warm Goat Cheese and Walnut salad (fried goat cheese disc with frisee, barbeer and honey pommery mustard vinaigrette. Something I had not had before. Highly Recommended.

From all the drinks that were mentioned on the menu, I opted for the Lemongrass Ginger Mojito, again I would say by far the best Mojito I have tasted in a long time.

4-IMG_7362 After the chitter chatter and having finished with various small plates, we decided to order our medium plate (main course dinner). I have never tried this dish before, however the name and the aroma of it on the table beside me, helped me with my decision to order Chicken Katsu Curry Risotto. (creamy risotto with Katsu curry and crumb fried chicken garnished with pickled onion and fried leek)7-IMG_7367And my not so adventurous son had a Brioche Burger with Beetroot Dijonnaise (burger with onion jam, white cheddar cheese and light batter fried onion rings on butter glazed brioche bun served with homemade fries. (the only difference my son had it with just the patty and cheese, talk about keeping it simple 🙁5-IMG_7363Some of the other main dishes offered were – Hoisin Sriracha Tenderloin, Mezzo Rigatoni Pasta, Truffled Wild Mushroom Pappardelle Pasta and Lime & Pomegranate Spaghetti Bolognese, so I am definitely going back some time soon try them out.

For desserts, the Chef served us the specials of the day which was Banana Pudding with Ice cream topped with caramel sauce and nuts. It was a tad to sweet for my taste, but the other guests quite liked it , so I guess I was the odd one out.

1-Mezzo1And finally I tried Berries dessert which was also one of the Chef’s Special 8-IMG_7368

All in all I simply loved the place , the decor and the ambience1-Mezzo2-IMG_73531-IMG_7352

Happy Republic Day 2014

happy republic day

Celebrated every year in India on 26th January, Republic Day honors the date on which the Constitution of India came into force in 1950. The Constitution, which was passed by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949, was adopted on 26th January 1950 with a democratic government system. 26th January was selected for this purpose because it was this day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress. It is one of three national holidays in the country.

Wishing every Indian a very Happy 65th Republic Day. Jai Hind!

Have you ever watched your parents while they were asleep?

It is one of those moments, when you read something and it hits a chord inside you. Maybe due to the circumstances/ situations or more so because it is true.

That one question that you never thought of. “Have you ever watched your parents while they were asleep?”

Your father’s body, once big and strong but now, the big is withered and the strong is weaker. Wisps of grey peek out of his hair, wrinkles now scar his forehead and hands and face.

“This man worked hard every day and would sacrifice anything to make sure his family is provided for and his children get the best education possible.

“Or how about your mother, whose soft hands once cuddled and held you close when you were a baby? Now, those hands are dry and rough, bearing evidence of the challenges she faced just for us.

“This woman takes care of our daily needs constantly nagging and scolding us because of her love for us. But sadly we often misconstrue her love as control and unfairness”.

I have never thought of watching my parents while they slept. I’ve watched my cousins/ my son sleep / friends’ children when they were babies, all round and cuddly and sweet smelling. But watch my parents? Na!!

But after reading this message, I realized that there was indeed much truth in it. In fact, my parents do not have to be asleep for me to realize that they have aged.

Just looking at my mother walk tells me that her legs are not as strong as they were before. Or hearing her ask me for help with that bag/ dish / something under the bed etc., the one she used to be able to carry, pick, push and drag around the house / kitchen herself.

Or watching my dad lift the gas cylinder or bags of groceries or pulling and carrying suitcases. I can easily do that now, I am young (you know compare to our parents). But to him it is a struggle.

What do all these observations tell me? Yes, my parents have aged. They are aging just as I am ageing. But as I age towards my best years and become stronger, they in turn are becoming weaker. They were once the caregivers and I the receiver. In time, I know our roles will reverse. Like it or not, want it to or not, this is life.

I suppose I have always subconsciously thought that my parents would always be with me, never growing old. It took that message to make me realize that my parents are not immortal. That they too, will one day leave the world and me. Until then, I will make good use of our time together. And so should you. Appreciate and remind yourself what you have now and now, does not last forever.

Captain Phillips

I simply loved the movie. Aside from the strange start of the movie, I let it go on for a bit and then it was a non stop thriller ride. I just loved Tom Hanks performance and his acting towards the end of the movie was just so intense and takes you to a whole new level. Although the end was too emotional for me (sob sob). I must say I have enjoyed a movie after a long time this year as in 2013-2014. More so, it is based on a true life story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. The drama, the action, the violence all in all, excellent movie, very well acted by all the actors and well scripted by the director. Defintely keeps you on the edge till the end!

This Is Your Brain on Sugar

I have a sweet tooth for all sorts of sweets, desserts, chocolates, ice creams – you name it and I like it. Its like being addicted to sugar, which my friends is not such a cool thing. A friend of mine send me this video, in the attempt to discourage my love for sugar.. I am only sharing this because I think it is very well done and makes a lot of sense.
